Fourth of July '13

It was a really nice Fourth of July Holiday and Weekend, especially with the break from work.

Spent the 4th with my family, and my "grill master" brother did the BBQ'ing.   The food was all really good, and there was LOTS of it - pork roast, pork ribs, beef ribs, corn, squash, sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers, and fish.   There was even baked ribs and beef stew; and some salads and fruit.

Rested the next day and took the day off of work; although, I find that I should use my idle time more wisely in the future.   Rest is good, but only if I really gain renewal.   I think of when Jesus rested, He spent time with the Father in solitude and prayer.

On Saturday, I did yardwork and cleared out the side walkway where weeds were hanging over into the neighbor's side.  God granted me the strength to finish; and even protected me from too much sun until it was done.   He reminded me that He is with me, even when I feel so alone at times like that.

Sunday was a blessing.  Went to worship and had a break from teaching.   Had our ABC get-together, and went to Pasadena.  Ate at Bua Na Thai in Arcade Lane Plaza on Colorado.  They supposedly had $5 Sunday noodle specials; but, it turned out that they charged extra for shrimp and the Pad Thai was not so good (too sweet and not so fresh).  Next time, it might be better to try Nine&Nine Thai which was just a block away; and supposedly more authentic based on the reviews.  The Pacific Asia Museum was not very large; but, it was a pleasant couple of hours.  Unfortunately, there were a lot of Eastern religion artifacts for Hinduism, Buddhism, and ancestor worship; though not surprising.  The layout of the museum was easy to follow; basically rooms surrounding a central courtyard.  The building used to be a home.  My favorite part was the courtyard garden, and it was a beautiful day.  Afterwards, we stopped by the largest Whole Foods market I've ever been to.  It was two stories with a tri-level underground parking garage.  Inside, there was also a food court area, and we had gelato and sorbets for dessert.  Overall, it was a pleasant day of fellowship and fun.  I thank God for friendships.
