New Year Day '11

The New Year is here; and 2010 ended nicely and relatively quietly.   I spent the day with one of my closest friends - we walked the beach (I never knew it was about 6 miles round trip down the walkway from Sunset to Huntington); and then went to Downtown Disney to see the fireworks.

I remember a few years ago trying to get into that area to view fireworks, and it was so crowded that we couldn't even get near the parking lot.  Disney "solved" the problem by charging $20 for parking, which also leaves parking spaces open for those with reservations to the restaurants which offer validation.  It was funny - we prayed for a parking spot thinking that it would be overly crowded; and God actually answered the request, though in a little unexpected way.  Still, I'm glad that we were able to catch the fireworks.  There were also supposed to be musical acts throughout the Downtown Disney area; but, most of them played for only about an hour and put on CDs - likely because it was so cold.

So, today, we plan to watch the Rose Parade, pray for the New Year, and see some movies.  More "nice and quiet".  We started by watching "Facing the Giants", which we think would be a good tradition to begin.

I am once again in anticipation of what God will do this coming year.  I know that I will be leading a series in my Community Group; going to the Journeys of Paul tour, studying through the Book of Acts, and continuing to read "The Church Awakening".   There are still areas that I am praying about....we'll see how God guides me in these areas...
