Character Matters

A person's character makes a difference in their appeal, despite their outward appearance. When a person has characteristics such as trustworthiness, kindness, and generosity; typically, one would naturally be drawn to them. In contrast, when a person is deceptive, harsh, and cruel; these are characteristics that should normally repel. Even if a person possesses physical good looks, it is their inner character that determines whether true beauty exists. This can be illustrated, for example, in Hollywood. When an actor plays a role where he is a man of integrity and honor, it is easy to be attracted to that person. However, if the same actor, plays a role where he is mean and uncaring, it changes how we feel towards him. I Samuel 16:7b says that "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart" That's what truly matters, a person's heart - their character; for true beauty is a reflection of God, who is the source of all beauty.

God is Able

So, we finished the "Truths in Romans" Bible Study series, and started on a "God is Able" series, with Ephesians 3:20-21 as the theme: "Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen" It's interesting that the Bible passages that help illustrate this theme happen to be popular Children's stories from Sunday School: Parting the Red Sea, Destroying the Wall of Jericho, David and Goliath, etc. I think that's because children, unlike most adults, don't place limitations on what God is able to do and actually love to hear about His miracles. May we recapture that wonder and remember that God is able to do amazing things through us!
